The Gospel Project Unit 20:2 Jesus’ Temptation

Today’s Bible Lesson is from Matthew 4, Mark 1, Luke 4

Big Picture Question: Why did Jesus become human? Jesus became human to obey His father’s plan and rescue sinners.

Key Passage: John 3:30- “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

We continue in our study on the life of Jesus with Jesus being tempted in the wilderness by satan. As we look to Jesus as our example, our perfect Savior, we have to ask ourselves the question, what do I do when temptation comes? Do we allow ourselves to be carried into sin by our temptations or do we resist the temptation by trusting Jesus and following his ways instead of our own?

This lesson comes at a unique time for our kids. This week they have just been told that they will not be returning to school for the remainder of the school year. Any hopes of life returning to normal in the next month has been lost. The range of emotions in response to this news varies no doubt, but I am confident that every one of our kids is feeling the effects of all the changes. Even those who seem to be just fine, have to work through the implications of the changes one way or another. Most often when we are in difficult situations, we are tempted to get upset, feel frustrated or angry, and those feelings lead us to act out in sin. This week’s lesson encourages our kids to look to Jesus for help when they are going through difficult circumstances. He has proven to be our Rescuer, setting us free from sin and death, and He shows us how to resist temptation, even when it is hard.
